A cookie table is a wedding tradition in Western Pennsylvania where in addition to a wedding cake, a large table with different cookies is presented to guests at the wedding reception. Cookies are generally prepared by family members in advance of the reception.
Wedding guests deliver baked goods to the venue on the day-of. We will set up a table for folks to help themselves to the cookies. You may enjoy them at the reception prior to, with, or after dinner, and we will have bags or boxes to take some home with you.
All types! Chocolate chip, peanut butter, stroopwafel, sugar, lemon, macarons, ginger snaps, brownies, and more. The term "cookie" is loose; if you have breads, pastries, etc they are also very much welcome. Make your favorite!
Rooted deep in the history of Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Eastern Ohio lies the beloved cookie table. To the folks in these parts of the country, a wedding without a Cookie Table is like having a wedding without the Bride and Groom – pointless! The Wedding Cookie Table has strong ethnic and religious ties, linked mainly to European immigrants of Catholic descent – particularly present in industrial areas that housed Italians, Greeks, and other Europeans.
Although the beginning of the Cookie Table is debatable, it is believed that this sweet sensation has been around since the Great Depression. It has been implied that the Cookie Table grew in popularity during this time because it offset the cost of purchasing a wedding cake, due in large part to the family and friends who baked for the wedding.
Please let us know if you plan on bringing cookies to the wedding. Text Alex or Emily, or email dardinskiwedding@gmail.com. We would like to have 600 cookies (50 dozen, or about 4 per guest) available.
ABSOLUTELY NO TREE NUTS (almonds, cashews, pistachios, walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, and pine nuts)
Mark common allergens, food sensitivities, religious restrictions (gluten, peanuts, milk products, animal fats, pork, kosher, etc) on a label on the tray.
The venue requires each cookie to be trayed and wrapped, and cannot refrigerate it. Please try to use a disposable tray or container, and let us know if you need a tray.
Drop off hours are between 10am to 5pm. If they need to stay cold, BYO cooler. Cookie table setup begins at 3:30pm; if you are interested in participating, let us know.
